Things to Do in the July Garden

In the Vegetable Garden
You should be harvesting with abundance this month. These are a few of the vegetables that should be ready this month, Broad Beans, French Beans, Runner Beans, Carrots, Courgettes, Cucumbers under glass, Lettuce outside, Peas, Early Potatoes and undercover Tomatoes.
You can still sow during this month and here are some suggestions Spring Cabbage ‘April’ (from Thompson & Morgan, http://www.thompson-morgan.com), Pea ‘Feltham First’ (from D.T. Brown at http://www.dtbrownseeds.co.uk) and Carrot ‘Amsterdam’ (from Marshalls at http://www.marshalls-seeds.co.uk).

Keep sowing your lettuce, mixed salad leaves are the best this month.

Be vigilant for white fly, aphids and other nasty bugs munching on your crops.

In the Flower Garden
Keep deadheading your annuals and other perennials. The more you dead head the more flowers you will get.

You can still sow seed during this month and here are a couple of my favourites, the dark rich, black Hollyhock ‘Nigra’ (from Mr Fothergills at http://www.mr-fothergills.co.uk) and you can sow undercover, Wallflower ‘Scarlet Bedder’ (from Mr Fothergills at http://www.mr-fothergills.co.uk).

Have a go this July and sow some seed, most of these packets contain more than one hundred seeds and in most cases half the price of a fully grown plant.
