In this old Dig For Victory film the voice over states, 'And surely isn't an hour in the garden better than an hour in a queue?'. Funnily enough queues aren't a thing of the past, anyone who has ever used a supermarket on a Saturday morning will tell you this. Next year we're going to try an experiment, to grow as the Ministry of Information dictated, to Dig for Victory. We will hand over part of our garden, akin to a small front suburban garden. We want to follow the same growing plans (if not the same vegetables, if we can get them) and see how much food we can get out of our garden. Surely isn't an hour in the garden better than an hour in the supermarket? Enjoy this wonderful film which is archived at The Imperial War Museum.
