Clayton Hall

There are often hidden gems within an hour of where we live and the other week we discovered Clayton Hall, lost in the suburban sprawl of Manchester, this old hall dates back to the fifteenth century and still has its moat. Sometimes in our posts it's just nice to share the photos of a grand day out and tell you to go and see it but we have a reason for being here. The gardens are lovely in summer but what was breaking through as spring creeps in was wonderful. Our house at Pig Row suffers from the same problem as Clayton Hall, there's no straight wall to be seen in these rooms and you can put that spirit level down. We spoke with the volunteers about doing things by eye, and you have to in old houses or you will go mad. So, enjoy the photos and visit for the wonderful rooms, the great cake and soup in the cafe, and the warm welcoming volunteers. Leave your spirit level at home and watch those doorways!
